ADORNED JEWELLERY
ARCHAIC JADE
After the last ice age, Mongolian cultures migrated south into China.
In the upper reaches of the Yellow and Yangtze Rivers, they discovered jade.
The earliest of these cultures,
the Longshan, the Liangzhu, the Hongshan,
made jade artifacts that look like
extra terrestrials,
bird headed cicada, bulls, dragon snakes and strange composite
animal-humans.
These neolithic jade artifacts are fantastic, because they are so old,
and because we know so little about the people who made them.
When you hold one, you can feel the ancestors dreaming.
